True Linkswear Proto Review

By now I may sound like a broken record when it comes to my opinion about True Linkswear. They are comfortable, they are innovative, they are built by golfers for golfers, well you get the idea. Just a few months ago I tested the Sensei. A shoe proven on and off the golf course. The one drawback was that it wasn't waterproof. Well, True listened to us and their answer to that was the Proto.

Although Ryan Moore has been wearing and winning on the PGA Tour with the TRUE Proto, it wasn't until January 2013 that the True Proto was available to the public. The TRUE Proto has the same premium waterproof leather as the stealth, but they incorporated some perforated leather in the heel and also spiced things up with a big red tab on the side. The TRUE Proto screams TRUE performance and that is what it delivers with their new sensei outsole which provides enhanced stability and traction.

The list of benefits and features are what I have come to expect from True and I find it incredible that they have been able to enhance these same features from shoe to shoe.

  • Premium Waterproof Leather Upper
  • Mid-foot stability wrap
  • Anti-microbial Liner
  • Memory Foam Heel
  • TRUE sensei Rubber Outsole
  • 2 year Waterproof Warranty

My first round of golf with the TRUE Proto was on a cold, wet early morning round. The performance from the new waterproof leather upper was outstanding. My feet stayed dry and the leather was easy to clean. Not only that, but the leather is extremely soft and allowed my feet to flex and bend without resistance. I love the addition of the liner "sock" and the memory foam in the heel. The combination of those two are essential to allowing my feet to be planted and stay comfortable during the 3 hour round of golf and when wearing them in the office after golf. For me, the sensei rubber outsole provides plenty of grip on the golf course and is not intrusive while walking on pavement or running on a treadmill. Like all other golf shoes during wet conditions, you just need to keep grass build up to a minimum between the traction patterns on the sole of the shoe. By doing this, I experienced absolutely no slipping during my round of golf. The 2 year Waterproof Warranty on the TRUE Proto just adds to my reassurance that I am wearing an amazing product and that TRUE has delivered another stellar shoe.

Honestly I could not find a negative from the TRUE Proto. I tried. They have comfort, performance and they look great. The Proto is priced in the middle of their 3 premium offerings. In my opinion it is OK to look passed the Tours and if you are looking for a traditional looking shoe, the Stealth is your best bet. The Proto offers the best of both and then some and is my overall pick and a shoe that is going to see a lot of action on the golf course this year. For more information visit truelinkswear.com
