Wilson Staff FG Tour V4 Irons Review

Now celebrating 101 Years of Sport, Wilson Staff has introduced an enhanced version of their popular FG Tour iron for the (F) Feel Player. The FG Tour V4, like many of the Wilson Staff clubs that make their way into GolfBalled HQ's always surprise us, but in a good way!

People on the course and at the range are shocked to see me game and score with Wilson Staff equipment. Why? It seems the overall consensus among the amateur golfers I meet is that they are Big Box retailer clubs purchased in large boxes that come with a golf bag. When I talk with my better golf buddies or people more into the game, they are like me. Not shocked by how well they perform one bit. So, how does a big brand like Wilson Staff lift themselves out and get more recognition from golfers around the world? Good question! We know they are trying. One thing I can say is that they have been heading in the right direction, and this year is no different.

No longer the dark horse around our neck of the woods, when Wilson Staff shows up at our door we know we are getting quality golf gear. The FG Tour V4 irons are packed full of the technology I expect from a good players iron. Thin top line, milled grooves and Forged heads. 18 Gram Tungsten Sole Weights in the 3-7 irons which lowers the CG to improve launch. A thinner face which allows weight to be positioned lower and in the impact area for ideal launch, spin and MOI. Paired with one of my favorite shafts, the True Temper DG Pro S300 feature variably-sized steps in the bottom half of the shaft for trajectory and responsiveness. PGA Tour proven by 2 time winner Kevin Streelman, Major champion Padraig Harrington and weekly contender Ricky Barnes. Plus the most important, they just look good!

Easy to hit, Easy to control and Fun to play. During my many range sessions and rounds of golf, I felt I was able to move the ball at will and on target. I was getting a slightly higher ball flight and softer landings with the scoring irons which left me with very good scoring opportunities and my long and mid irons were a bit on the high side as well but that was welcomed in my game. The great thing as opposed to last year is that there was no distance loss with the long irons. Distance control was spot on with the FG Tour V4 irons. If anything, I would like the feel off the face of the long irons to be just a tad softer. It wasn't harsh what so ever, I felt it to be a little clicky at times. Otherwise, the mid and scoring irons felt like butter!

I love that the set comes 3 - GW and at a cheaper price than a majority of sets coming with 1 less club! For those who have game, the FG Tour V4 irons are a bargain. They compare very well to those irons coming in at $200-300 more. Like I said, they scored well and were fun and easy to game.
