I am. Most of my family is actually. We participate in a lot of the tournaments that the club offers. We often have social gatherings/parties there, even when we aren't gathering. It's a great way to meet other golfers in the area, too.

Is it really that special to belong to a club? I understand not having a standing tee time, but it doesn't seem like you would have to wait that long to finally get to your game, right? And most have club houses so that you can easily entertain yourself while you wait.

I wouldn't say it was "special", but it does have it perks. If you ever join a private club, you'll understand some of those things like lower volume of play, easier tee times, faster rounds, having the course to yourself on a Wednesday afternoon, etc. In some areas of the country, public courses probably offer all of those things but in areas of the country where there are a LOT of golfers competing for tee times, it can be wonderful to be a club member.

I am because I live there mainly. I'd actually stay though because I've met some great guys too. I've realized if you always golf with the same people, it's just like playing the sand course. I enjoy different interactions etc.

Plus dues are cheap.
