Yep. New thing for me and still really enjoying it. It's nice to be able to just pop over whenever and hit the range or hop on to play some holes and have the course not be crowded. Sat morning tee times with the reg group is nice too. Downside is definitely variety, but for me I'd choose the club.

I wouldn't say it was "special", but it does have it perks. If you ever join a private club, you'll understand some of those things like lower volume of play, easier tee times, faster rounds, having the course to yourself on a Wednesday afternoon, etc. In some areas of the country, public courses probably offer all of those things but in areas of the country where there are a LOT of golfers competing for tee times, it can be wonderful to be a club member.

I see. So they don't allow non-members to use the course at all? I guess it would be nice to not have to compete for tee times.

i am currently a member at a private course. In the area I live, it is the best course around. One of the things I like best about it is the guys I play with are hardcore golf addicts. They play as much as possible and in just about any weather. I also love the events that are planned. every month there is a club event, with 4 of them being "majors". Points are awarded based on finish, with more points for the majors. The points winner gets free cart usage for the following season, worth $16 per round.

Some of the events we had this year were:
Shamble format
Blind draw team best ball
Ryder cup matches
Stableford format
Scramble

Individual stroke events
Match play tournaments

It was a blast.
Callaway Razr Fit w/ Diamana 9.5
Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 3 wood
Taylor Made Burner 3 hybrid
Nike VR-s 4 hybrid
Callaway Razr X Forged Irons
Callaway Jaws 52 and 58 degrees
Scotty Cameron California Del Mar

That's a decent prize for simply playing a sport you love anyway. Are the points accumulated over the entire season then? Or is it on a monthly basis?
