Mulli and myself are members of a local club. But I'm starting to not like having to play one course. I want to get out and play other courses more often, so I might not be a member for much longer.

I do belong to a club, but by no means is it anything special. It's ok to play on, but I want be on here bragging about it. It really appeals to a newer golfer like me with its openness. You don't play there, then your going to play courses that are honestly snuggled in the mountains.

I have been a member of a private club in the past and I can honestly see both sides of the argument. Every time you played a different course from your club, you felt like you were throwing money away, but having a standing tee time for your group every Sat and Sun morning at your club is pretty sweet. Some of the members simply wouldn't play anywhere else because they wouldn't pay green fees outside of their club membership, but if you could ever talk them into playing somewhere else once a year, bet them BIG with full handicaps because their handicap never traveled, they couldn't play to their handicap other than the home course. If you DO join a private club, a club with a lot of other reciprocity clubs that you can also play should be a priority.

Not being a member of a private club right now allows me to play all kinds of courses and I never feel like I'm losing money to do it, but I'm at the mercy of everybody else who wants to make a tee time... And I NEVER, EVER experienced a round longer than 4.5 hours at a private club, membership just won't allow it. Total crapshoot on how long it's going to take at Goat Rope Municipal Golf and Fishin' Club.

Pros and Cons either way. And to answer your actual question, I have access to a couple of really good military courses that you wouldn't be able to play without me.

Is it really that special to belong to a club? I understand not having a standing tee time, but it doesn't seem like you would have to wait that long to finally get to your game, right? And most have club houses so that you can easily entertain yourself while you wait.

So how many of you guys are club members? If a fellow golfballer came to your area would you take them to play your club?
