This thread made me start thinking back about when I started to get interested in golf. It definitely wasn't as a little kid like Metz' awesome boy. I'm wondering what age would be good to start teaching a kid who shows a little interest in it, though. How young were you? Or when did you start your kids off?

I don't think you can start too early so whenever the first signs show up! I started later on in life and it felt like everyone my age had already been playing for years. I wish I would've started much earlier in life.

I started at 14, and have been playing for almost 8 years now. The earlier you start them, the easier it is for them to pick up and become more natural at.

I saw a grandfather and his grandson playing a round yesterday. I asked how old the boy was, the grandfather said he was 5 yrs old. This was his 2nd time out. He has the boy practice twice a week. Seems like he is picking it up pretty well.

Never too young o start... or too old as far as that goes. My son was 12 when he really started... part of the delay was the Autism. But here we are a year later and his swing is looking so good. More importantly his focus is laser sharp.

The only thing is you have to be careful how much they're taught or how serious you are with them. Let them swing, find a move of their own and make tweaks to what they naturally have. Never be too technical too soon. Teaching etiquette is more important early than the technical points of a swing.
