Just throwing it out there, the USGA is absolutely wrong to wait until after the round to possibly asses the penalty to DJ. If they clearly feel this strongly that he caused the ball to move, assess the penalty and tell him to swallow it and move on. Not fair to him or any of the other competitors to hang it over their heads

And as i say that, Rory, Rickie, And Jordan all ripped the USGA on Twitter. What a joke

Totally agree. That was a mess. Fortunately for the USGA, DJ won with a comfortable margin so the penalty was not a factor.

It's just inconsistent....one player grounds his putter, the ball moves, no penalty - because he's not in the hunt?!?
Another player grounds parallel to the ball, but doesn't ground it behind the ball...it moves - and that's a penalty???
Dustin was confident he didn't cause it to move. Waiting until after the round to make a decision is such a bad option.
If you're going to do it - do it and move on!

I agree with what everybody has written here, as well as about 100 different emails and articles written about the same subject, HOWEVER, it didn't matter, DJ won anyway.
(side story time - I played golf with a guy who actually knows DJ and has played golf with him and several tour caddies on PGA tour. Evidently it is common knowledge on the PGA Tour that besides his length, and now wedge play to be fair, his greatest asset is that he has the intelligence of a stick and pretty much doesn't get much outside of "put ball in hole". )
The side story is to say that I doubt it really bothered him much, and that's a good thing. Think of how it would have affected Phil or Rory or Tiger, well that's a bad example......, or Jordan, etc. They might have imploded with that weighing on their mind but ol' stick boy didn't get flustered at all. Again, a good thing because it was a bullshit ruling, but in the end it didn't matter. The USGA look like idiots, and they are, and DJ got the trophy. And trophy girl, if you think she is.

Interesting article, rusty 4 handicap and former college golfer shoots 89 at Oakmont, and says he played pretty good.

I'm around a 4 myself and while watching the tournament was trying to figure out what I would shoot there. I told myself I could keep it under 100 probably  to see he played pretty well and shot 89 I can stand by my thought haha
