Alright so I have a dilemma it's not a bad one. I can play my iron shots fairly well but I'm always playing below the pin, which is a good thing right?, but I want to work on backspin and clubbing up. Are there any suggestions or tips that anyone has about tapping X on the front roller to get more backspin lol

The ball you play will play a big part in spin. More importantly though, is the swing itself. Compressing the ball and having proper shaft lean will generate a higher RPM.

Harvey Penick said that working on backspin for amateurs is a terrible idea, we normally come up short. I wouldn't waste the time, learn how much each club rolls out for you. I do back up 8-9 irons and wedges, but it's not something I'm TRYING to do, I just know to take a little more club when the greens are softer and know it's going to backspin. I hit a 4 iron today 210 carry and it went 2 feet from where it hit on the green........the hole was 225, so I would have liked some roll out, backspin would have made it worse.
Work on consistent distances with your irons, way more valuable than working on trying to get backspin.

I only hit it pure 4-5 out of ten shots, so I take the club that will hit the center of the green. Then I usually land on the front and roll it to the center. If I pure it the ball has enough spin to not roll out as far. I just don't hit it well enough consistently to worry about trying to spin the ball back.

So many factors determine how much you spin your iron shots.... Ball choice, shaft design, compression etc etc..
I put KBS tour 105 shafts in my irons to help me add some spin about a year and a half ago when I was regularly playing ProV1Xs, and with the added spin I got from the shafts I spun EVERYTHING back with my irons.. Cost me ~1-2 clubs on some shots. I discovered Top Flite Gamers, and they are now my go to ball. Hop and stop through all my irons, and can occasionally back them up ~ 3-5 feet if need be. Gamers are typically on sale for about $15/dozen Vs. ProV1Xs that go for $50/dozen. Those shafts are going to save me a lot of cash throughout their life time, and I'm playing the most consistent golf I've ever played! :silly:

What's best kind of ball? And yes I have been working on the angle of my club. I used to get backspin(1-2ft) but haven't had some since last year, very weird
