Callaway RAZR Fit Driver Review - Club Wars 2012

At the start of Club Wars, this driver was one of the early favorites. After testing it, we really enjoyed it. Even though Callaway is a bit behind the 8 ball with adjustability, it was well worth the wait. Callaway’s Optifit Adjustment system is definitely something that was worth the wait because the ease of adjustability makes the club very versatile for all different swing types. The small club head produces a nice launch and a low spin trajectory, which is exactly what a lower handicap player is looking for in a driver.

The Razr Fit finished in the average range with a club head speed of 107.5 MPH, and in the above average class for total distance coming in at 262.3 yards on average. The RAZR Fit surprised many in the distance category coming in the top 4 of the 6 testers top 3!

Across the board, the Callaway RAZR Fit found its way into the top 3 for best Control and dispersion of shots. The sheer versatility allowed the testers to find settings that worked well for their swing which translated into superior control and clustering of drives. Because of this, the Callaway RAZR Fit was awarded the Club Wars 2012 Driver Award for Best Control!

The performance is just as described by Callaway, so if you are looking into a new driver, this could be one of your testers before buying. The Razr Fit ranked as one of the most forgiving clubs, so a tour level club with forgiveness seems to be a great combination for a golfer. With a strong mix of forgiveness, superior control, and above average distance, Callaway definitely released one of the TOP OVERALL DRIVERS in 2012. We would recommend this to a scratch to 18 handicap player.

Callaway has pulled out all the stops with this RAZR Fit driver. The OptiFit Hosel adjusts the face angle in Open, Square or Closed positions at address to improve accuracy and trajectory. The OptiFit Weights, seen in the top and bottom, (12 grams and 2 grams) shift the clubhead’s center of gravity to promote either Draw or Neutral ball flights.

A combination of VFT and Hyperbolic Face Technology creates a larger sweet spot and increases ball speeds across the titanium face for longer, more consistent distance. This technology saves weight that can be redistributed to the perimeter of the clubhead for a higher MOI. The chemical milling process selectively removes excess material for precision thickness control.

This is a stiff Aldila RIP’D NV weighing 60 grams with a mid torque and a mid to low kickpoint. The grip is a 55 gram Golf Pride New Decade.

The driver’s crown contains over 12 million turbostratic carbon fibers, a revolutionary material which make the crown lighter and stronger than titanium. The RAZR Fit’s forged composite has allowed Callaway to control thickness, resulting in a clubhead that’s lighter but still has an extremely high MOI
