|Nike Vapor Black Review|
The Nike Vapor Black golf ball is a 3-piece distance ball with an Ionomer blend cover. It has a harder balls distance but with a softer feel around the greens. The Nike Vapor Black fills the gap in Nike's line of golf balls, the gap between the PD line and the Tour line. At $25 the ball compares to the Titleist NXT and the Srixon Q-star, Which is not a bad place to be. When trying out a mid-level Nike ball I never though the words “long” and “control” would be used together, But, I was wrong. In this review of the Nike Vapor Black golf ball, I will say why this is a great ball for the all around player.
Greenside Spin: 6.5/10
Driver/Woods Grade: B+
Off the big clubs the Vapor Black is a delight. It gets in the air effortlessly and keeps on going. I saw “decent” distance out of the Vapor Black, but it did not pass up other balls in it's price range, but it did get more roll with a low flight. With a softer feel and a nice sound, It flies off the face fast. I saw just a tad more side-spin off this driver than balls in it's price range, But that made this ball easier to shape off the driver when needed.
Irons Grade: B
With the irons the Vapor Black had the same benefits I saw off the driver. It did leave me short of greens at times, with not much guts on approach shots. With a good feel, decent spin, and pure flight it was a great ball once I adjusted my clubs to it's distance. Control was pretty good for a “distance” ball but Nike also boasts that it does have control aspects. And I was able to shape this ball pretty easily but sometimes I got a ballooning effect on high shots.
Wedges Grade: B+
Same outcome with the wedges as the irons. I saw pretty good spin and check with this ball. Not great, but good, and surprising. With full wedge shots the cover held up nicely, which usually will rip apart other balls. I was able to do high flop shots with great control but also do bump and runs with good speed and checkup.
Putter Grade: B+
Off the putter I was really surprised with the nice soft feel and subtle click of the Vapor Black. It held lines nicely and speed control was easy.
This ball is an all around good ball for a mid handicapper looking to have a reliable, long lasting, mid range ball. I wouldn't mind bagging the Nike Vapor Black at any time over other balls in it's price range due to it's all around versatility. I saw no major flaws with this one, but no major standouts either. Just a good mid range performer with no surprises.
