| MaxFli U/4 Golf Ball Review |
|
For 90 years the brand Maxfli has been synonymous with the game of golf. Like other brands in transition, the company's direction was changed and their line of balls that once competed with the likes of the mighty PRO V1 was lost. Dick's Sporting Goods , which acquired the Maxfli brand, is leading a charge to get the brand back up to "par" and back on tour with the introduction of the new U/4 golf ball.
The Technology: Maxfli has designed the U/Series to be the MOST COMPLETE line of urethane golf balls on the market. The U/4 is a 4-piece premium cast urethane ball that was engineered to lower scores through a perfect combination of increased short game spin, a softer feel and excellent distance. The U/4's outer shell's design features a low spinning 318 dimple pattern which generates a mid-high launch angle. The inner mantle layer is designed to reduce side spin while the outer mantle layer provides additional MOI and higher launch off long irons.
Playability: As a 7 handicap am I really reaching in my bag to play a Maxfli? The simple answer is YES! In today's economy price matters and at $39 for a dozen balls you are saving close to $10 on a golf ball that matches if not beats the competition. Off the tee I am seeing a little higher ball flight and a little less roll out. It is acceptable to me because I am getting more ball carry so the distances equal out. The softer feel on my fairways, hybrids and irons is amazing and I feel more in control of my shot shaping and distance control from the fairways and in the rough. Compared to other 4+ layer balls the spin and check from around the greens is spot on. One area that the U/4 excels at above the other high end golf balls is with durability. I use TM ATV Wedges which have destroyed quite a few balls and the U/4 has held up very nice. Conclusion: Bringing a brand back from the dead is one of the hardest things to do. Fortunately for Maxfli they have the right product to do it. In my 6+ rounds of golf with the U/4 I am now very happy to reach in my bag and grab a Maxfli. My game and wallet has benefited from this ball and I highly recommend it for you lower handicappers out there looking for the perfect blend of distance, feel, spin, workability and of course price.
