I've got some success to share... The other day, I played a great course with over 110 bunkers on it. I'm allergic to bunkers, well, I actually just don't have much experience or success playing from them... So on hole 16, there is a 314 yard par 4. I hit my drive with a punch shot technique to try and ensure a straight shot, which thankfully took my ball straight down the pipe to 39 yards short of the pin. I chipped to 8 or 9 feet and left a 2" tap in for par. I was happy with that...
... The 4 some in front of my buddy and I were SLOW and loud and wild and having a good time. Instead of getting frustrated with them, my buddy suggested to use the time to practice some sand shots. I was digging the idea since we had nobody directly behind us waiting to tee off. My playing partner chose a fairly deep bunker and flopped a shot to within 6' of the pin. He said, "Your turn!". I cringed and clamped down on my jaw with some nervous energy. I stepped up, he helped me align my body to make sure my upper body was open enough to counteract the openness of my 60* wedge and I went for it.
... To my surprise & delight, I hit the perfect shot and what seemed like slow motion, I got to watch my first ever holed bunker shot fall into the cup as if it were putted with the most perfect amount of pace to just barely but confidently fall over the lip of the cup.
I know it wasn't "In play" but it felt just the same. What a feeling! Too bad I hit one into the tight fairway off the next tee box, caught an overhanging branch and dropped one into the water. I was hoping the holed bunker shot mojo would carry with for 17 & 18 but it didn't. It could have been because of the fact that it was my 4th round in 4 days and my body was just about done or a lapse in mental focus... I started that round with 5 straight pars on a course rated to 140... I'll stick with my body was just out of juice
Fun video again. Luke's demeanor is so warm and inviting. I like that about this guy!
