What is the best drill for getting more backspin on short chip/pitch shots? I played with a neg HC player today and he schooled me in the short game dept... If he missed the green he would chip the ball right at the hole bounce it once and stop it. I know why it did that but just can't get my ball to spin on short shots. I need a drill to help me. Any ideas?

Make sure your hands lead.. and accelerate through the shot. Don't live and die by flying it to the hole and hoping for the ball to check and stop.. work on the b'n'r. Safer alternative. In short game creativity is king. The more tools in your repetoire the better.

I play the bump and run when I'm about 7 yards and in from the green. Outside of that I'll usually play a 60 degree flop.

Thats what I do as well, just drop it in nice and soft and make sure it stops. Or the bump with good contact gets a good amount of spin if hit correctly.

Have you ever practiced the shots around a green to get the check up? It's not like a regular wedge approach shot. The best practice is hanging put at a chipping area and keep trying. The closer you are the harder it is to do.

When I have a decent day near greens I play bnr or an abbr version. Less time in the air the better. I pick my spot and let it release. Some days it's miraculous and some days it's terrible. If I can putt from off the green, I always opt for it.
